Bio

Jon is a pastor and co-founding director of The Global Immersion Projecta peacemaking training organization forming people of faith to engage our divided world in restorative ways.

As a practitioner and trainer, most of Jon’s peacemaking work has been in the contexts of Palestine/Israel, the Mexico/United States border and his own city of San Diego. It has been in the “classroom” of these conflicts that his many years of training pastors and leaders for the work of reconciliation has taken place. In more recent years, Jon’s academic work has been focused on mobilizing the Church for constructive engagement in politics (beyond the binaries of left/right) on behalf of those on the underside power.

Jon focuses much of his writing and speaking on interpersonal and systemic peacemaking and ways the Church is invited to be an instrument of peace in our conflicted world. He writes for numerous publications including USAToday, Red Letter Christians, Sojourners, RELEVANT and is a contributing author to multiple books. He has written three books; Mending the Divides: Creative Love in a Conflicted World (co-authored with Jer Swigart), Thin Places: Six Postures for Creating and Practicing Missional Community (co-authored with Rob Yackley) and Teaching Through the Art of Storytelling.

Jon regularly speaks at churches, universities and conferences and has a Master’s Degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Theology and Christian Ethics. He is currently working on a PhD in Theology and Christian Ethics at Vrije University Amsterdam. He lives in San Diego with his wife, Jan, three daughters (Ruby, Rosie & Lou) and one son (Hank) where they co-lead an intentional Christian community seeking to live as a reconciling presence in their neighborhood. The whole family loves to swim and surf any chance they get.

Jon occasionally blogs at www.jonhuckins.net and you can follow him on Twitter and Facebook. Listen to Jon speak at Point Loma Nazarene University and Eastern University. To contact Jon about coming to speak at your church, university or conference email: jon.huckins@gmail.com
